Who Needs Immigration Support

If you or your team members plan to live and work in Mexico, you need proper immigration status. This applies to founders relocating to manage their Mexican operations, employees being transferred, or anyone who needs to be physically present for bank appointments, SAT visits, or customs inspections on a regular basis.

Visa Types

Temporary Resident

1–4 years, renewable

For founders and employees who plan to live and work in Mexico. Allows employment, banking, and full operational presence. Most common for ecommerce entrepreneurs.

Permanent Resident

Indefinite

For those making Mexico their long-term home. Requires 4 years of temporary residency or qualifying through financial means, family ties, or retirement.

Work Visa

1 year, renewable

Employer-sponsored visa for team members being transferred to your Mexican entity. Requires a job offer from a Mexican company.

Business Visitor (FMM)

Up to 180 days

For short visits: bank appointments, SAT registration, customs inspections, or meetings. No work authorization — administrative activities only.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. If you manage your company from abroad and don’t live in Mexico, you don’t need a visa. Tally handles all in-person requirements on your behalf. You only need immigration support if you plan to relocate or visit frequently for operational reasons.

Temporary resident visas typically take 4–8 weeks from application to approval. Work visas may take 6–12 weeks due to employer authorization requirements. Business visitor FMMs are issued on arrival.

US citizens can enter Mexico visa-free for up to 180 days as a business visitor (FMM). However, this does not authorize employment. If you plan to work or live in Mexico, you need a temporary resident visa.

Work visas must be sponsored by your Mexican entity (the company we form for you), not by Tally. We handle all the documentation and INM filing on behalf of your company as the employer.
